Achoimre:The alignment of social, economic and environmental aspects with the Sustainable Development Goals is important in the oil industry. However, the methods currently used to conduct project analysis do not adequately consider some aspects (energy efficiency, eco- efficiency, ergonomics, socioeconomic) in light of the company's sustainability policies. This work proposes the development of a new technique for a Preliminary Sustainability Analysis of the Enterprise-PSAE. The method developed uses the participatory action research methodology, based on successive empirical case studies, which were applied in the initial stage of investment projects of a large oil company in Brazil. The PSAE makes it possible to identify “Actions for Sustainability-AS's” and assess their impacts on the three pillars of sustainability (economic, environmental and social). By considering the principles of the “materiality test” of the company's sustainability reports, and the method of “monetary aggregation” to measure the impact of the “AS's” on these 3 pillars, PSAE strongly contributes to improving the overall assessment of sustainability indices. Thus, PSAE minimizes subjectivity in these assessments and aligns the project with the company's sustainability report. PSAE was applied in projects of oil installations, enabling a comprehensive view of the pillars of sustainability. The result of the case study reveals that PSAE improves sustainability indices in the design stage of the project, that it has good applicability, and that it is operational in these situations. In addition, the application of PSAE showed that this technique contributes to the decision-making process of engineering managers to align new ventures with the company's sustainability policy.
