Resumo:With growing urbanization, the man is imposing pressure on natural resources, especially those related to water resources. Arises the need to establish mechanisms to organize the management of these resources so that we can establish the needs of today without compromising their future use (sustainable development). In this work, based on the concept of integrated water resource management using as unit watersheds (L9433/1997), is made a survey of what has been doing some countries, including Brazil. After the Federal Constitution, have defined only two possibilities for the domain of water (federal or State), discussing the role of the municipalities that despite not deter the field of water, is responsible for the administration of them within its territory. From the Instruments of integrated management of water resources, already provided for in Federal Law 9.433/1997 (Water Act), "externai to the municipalities”, with municipal management tools, “inner cities ", is presented as a result, the present study, a management model with the role of Natafs city, in relation to the Integrated Management of Water Resources, adopting the principies of economic, social and environmental sustainable, based on studies of the Master Plan of Drainage and Stormwater Management of city of Natal.
