Resumo:This search paper has as main objective verify if the legislation on public transparency has been abide by the nine municipalities with a population of over 10,000 inhabitants in the Intermediate Region of Caicó, in Rio Grande do Norte, in their respective Transparency Portals. It has been based on the access to information law, the article presents the results of documentary and qualitative research carried out from the analysis of the Municipal Transparency Effectiveness Index, developed through inspection by the Municipal Administration Board of the Court of Auditors of the State of Rio Grande do Norte and available on its official page on the world wide web. The analysis aimed to find out how effective the transparency of the municipalities in the sample is, through scores and ranges presented on the website and established by the fulfillment or not, of twenty-two requirements required in law. The results reveal unsatisfactory levels of transparency and show that most of the inspected portals carry out only a fraction of what is required, and according to survey data, most municipalities do not fully comply with what is established by the Access to Information Law and indicate a need for improvement.
