Resumo:Retail chains have emerged as an associative model modern for small retailers, given the increasing competition faced by this sector. This study aims to analyze the supply chain management in food retailing as a strategic factor of competitiveness and was made much use of bibliographic research, the field. In this study highlights the supply chain management, the use of information and communication technology in this management process, barriers to the consolidation of management and competitiveness in the retail sector. The field research was done in Supermarkets Unicompre distributed network with 16 stores in various cities in the interior of Rio Grande do Norte. It has verified that the network has problems such as: a lack of commitment associated with the decisions taken, lack of commitment to partnerships, indecision, resistance to small changes and thoughts from some members. The results also show that the network has conquered new markets, expanded its partnerships and has a group of business owners aware of their responsibilities as members of a retailer looking to add value to their products and services with the goal of satisfying the wishes of their customers.
