The implementation of a more efficient system aids in the development of activities and also assists in the management of an effective inventory control. Before various surveys, it was found that the extent that a commercial company keeps its inventory controlled, it will tend to get satisfactory results in the purchases made, goods storage and return on invested capital. The main objective of this work is to expose the importance of inventory control has on the growth of a trading company as well as the inconvenience that its absence may cause the entity. This research was conducted in a supermarket in the city of Caico. With the help of bibliographies, articles, monographs and search sites, it was possible to build the theoretical framework of that work. Through the analysis of documents, reports, observation of the physical space of the company it was found that management is beginning to implement alternatives that facilitate the improvement of inventory control, however, there are still flaws in this control. It is suggested to the manager to assess and get to the base of said researcher suggestions in its decision-making with regard to improvement of the supermarket inventory control. Com o desenvolvimento da globalização e a constante busca de crescimento do setor supermercadista, a administração das referidas empresas se viram na necessidade de implantar alternativas que viabilizassem o favorecimento do aumento da lucratividade da entidade com o auxílio da tecnologia. A implantação de um sistema eficaz contribui no desenvolvimento das atividades e auxilia também na gestão de um controle de estoque eficaz. Diante de várias pesquisas, verificou-se que na medida em que uma empresa comercial mantém seu estoque controlado, a mesma tenderá a obter resultados satisfatórios nas compras realizadas, armazenamento das mercadorias e retorno do capital investido. O objetivo principal deste trabalho é expor a importância que o controle de estoque exerce no crescimento de uma empresa comercial, bem como os transtornos que sua ausência pode causar na entidade. Esta pesquisa foi realizada em um supermercado na cidade de Caicó. Com o auxílio de bibliografias, artigos, monografias e sites de buscas, foi possível construir o referencial teórico do referido trabalho. Por meio da análise de documentos, relatórios, observação do espaço físico da empresa verificou-se que gestão está começando a implantar alternativas que viabilizem no melhoramento do controle do estoque, porém, ainda existem falhas neste controle.
