Crynodeb:The benefits related to the practice of physical exercises are evidenced in several studies, giving the practitioner an improvement in cardiorespiratory fitness, strength, muscle tone, and psychological well-being. The purpose of this study is to describe the motivations of people to begin the practice of physical exercise. The IMPRAF - 54 instrument was used for data collection, with 115 people aged between 16 and 70 years, of which 19 are males and 96 are females. We see that the main motivating factors, guided by the theory of self-determination, are the motivational constructs of the search for health and the pleasure in practice that it provides to the individual. We suggest that further research be done in the area in order to reach a greater range of individuals.
