The method adopted is quantitative, through an empirical research, whose data were obtained in cross-section, with the application of a questionnaire based on a research instrument already validated nationally and internationally. In addition to the description of the sample profile, statistical techniques were used: Exploratory Factor Analysis (with bootstrap) and Robust Multiple Linear Regression, with the help of the G*Power 3 programs for sample treatment and SPSS 27 for the other procedures. With the statistical results, a satisfactory response and factor adjustment were obtained in the scale test in a quantitative way, and it was possible to infer that both approaches and their respective variables are strong, but especially that of Causation, which is also significantly impacted by gender, age, source of resources and the fact that the participants are currently entrepreneurs. Effectuation is timidly influenced by the same variables, but not in all its sub-dimensions. It was concluded that there is coexistence of both approaches in the decision-making of exEmpretecos, despite a predominance of the Causation mode. O objetivo do estudo consiste em analisar as relações entre as abordagens Causation e Effectuation e as características de empreendedores ex-participantes do Empretec do SEBRAE/RN em seus negócios. O método adotado é quantitativo, por meio de uma pesquisa empírica, cujos dados foram obtidos em corte transversal, com aplicação de um questionário baseado em um instrumento de pesquisa já validado nacional e internacionalmente. Além da descrição do perfil da amostra, técnicas estatísticas foram utilizadas: Análise Fatorial Exploratória (com bootstrap) e Regressão Linear Múltipla Robusta, contando com o auxílio dos programas G*Power 3 para tratamento da amostra e do SPSS 27 para os demais procedimentos. Com os resultados estatísticos, obteve-se satisfatória resposta e ajuste fatorial no teste de escala de forma quantitativa, e foi possível inferir que ambas as abordagens e suas respectivas variáveis são contundentes, mas especialmente a de Causation, que também é impactada com significância pelo gênero, idade, origem de recursos e o fato de os participantes estarem atualmente empreendendo. A de Effectuation é timidamente influenciada pelas mesmas variáveis, mas não em todas suas subdimensões.
