Resumo:This article proposes a reflection on the processes of institutional dismantling of fishing activity in Brazil and the discontinuities of its public policies, which occurred as of 2015. The methodology used was the consultation of documents, bibliographical survey, semi-structured interviews and use of a bank. existing data base. It concludes by the need and importance of understanding the dynamics of the confrontation of interests present in the sector, in order to understand the aggravations of institutional dismantling and discontinuities in public policies, guiding actions that promote the diffusion and strengthening of fisheries institutions at the local level. This investigation also covered aspects of fishing activity in Rio Grande do Norte and is part of the project “Institutions and actors in public sector policies for fishing activities, between 2003 and 2018”, of the Rural Studies Laboratory of the of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte.
