Resumo:The present paper aims to comprehend how the extension actions done extramural by the students on the Saúde & Cidadania course operate. As a program on the Saúde Coletiva Department, Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte. It also seeks to understand what features this course possesses, its main aspects and biggest qualities concerning the actions of its university extension. In order to do that, this study analyzed: 1) how does its actions function on the field; 2) qualify the knowledge acquired by the students and the community; 3) how the students could consider acquiring new knowledge when doing extramural extension; 4) to understand how the course helps contributing to social emancipation. The methodology used was Mixed Methods Research, meaning the combination between Qualitative and Quantitative Methods. Considering the research done, despite the interviewed declarations on some obstacles that came along the way while practicing the extension actions on field, financial, approach, or other types of problems, including its difficulties on being recognized, the course Saúde & Cidadania still manages to act as a lab on methodological and pedagogical innovations regarding university extension, with important results concerning social reality changes at the communities it takes place.
