Resumo:Since the year of 2017, extra-curricular projects of research and practice were developed between the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte) and the State Department of Media (Departamento Estadual da Imprensa). These projects’ motivation and object of study is the content of the Press Museum Eloy de Souza’s archive, composed mainly of moveable types, cliches, and typography machines, which mostly belong to the old graphic workspace of A República newspaper, which used to be produced in the museum. From the surveys created previously by interns and faculty in the Museum, the conclusion was that it was necessary to organize these artifacts with a new structure, considering museographic guidelines for the development of an exhibition design plan. With this premise, the project for the conception of the exposition “Potiguar Graphic Memory” (Memória Gráfica Potiguar) was initiated, concerning all these artifacts being exhibited in the museum, which serve as symbols of a very relevant era to the State’s graphic production history. This conclusion project endeavoured to investigate theories and methods relating to the theme of museums and exhibits, with the aim of supporting its activities and define paths to the project. For its development, a correlation was made between design project’s methodology and the museology area’s orientations, a correlation which encompassed all the phases of the project. Finally, an exhibit-design proposal was created, themed “Potiguar Graphic Memory: from A República newspaper to the typography workspaces of Rio Grande do Norte” (Memória Gráfica Potiguar: do Jornal A República às oficinas tipográficas do RN), with a conceptual development in modules, new objects disposition and the creation of a visual identity to the supporting information. The project, alongside other projects developed by alterior research actions, succeeded to perform study practices, as well as the curation and documentation of a new, greatly historically important archive. The production concluded that which had been proposed; however, final steps such as execution, implementation and evaluation depend on initiatives that are beyond the project’s reach. Despite this fact, there are new opportunities being now added to the museum relating to its structure and communication planning, which can help the institution strengthen its relevance in the State.
