Resumo:This dissertation is a result of reflections about immaterial heritage as a methodological approach to become possible to question in the classroom demonstration of popular religiosity in the special context of João Maria Priest Square, situated in the historical center of Natal city. Based on an activity essentially pedagogical, a field class with High School during 2017, 2018 and 2019, this study identified some students, when they visit the mentioned square, they showed some discomfort to stay there and to pay attention to the explanation. In light of this problem, it has the following question: why students do not feel belonging to this specific space? For this purpose, a group of strategies try to demystify situations that popular religiosity is present. As an example, this study analyzed the religious devotion related to Cicero Priest, in the city of Juazeiro do Norte, in the Ceará state; and the religious peregrination to Rita Saint, in the city of Santa Cruz, in the Rio Grande do Norte state. Aiming to understand the previous knowledges of the students related to the popular religiosity, they replied to a diagnostic questionnaire. Results point a reasonable quantity of answers that reinforce a predominant feeling of religious intolerance. Recognizing this situation, this reasearch promoted a creation of a digital cartoon book that can give to the teachers from Primary and High School support to work with conceptions as immaterial heritage, religious syncretism and popular religiosity. This study has as main objective to promote interconnections among the following thematic axis: popular religiosity/popular Catholicism, immaterial heritage and History teaching, bringing the reader to the concrete situations that are happening in the João Maria Priest Square. The specific objectives are: to present an overview of studies related to the popular religiosity and the intersections to the popular Catholicism; to show the historical context of Natal city during the inauguration of the João Maria Priest Square; in the end, to describe the product of this dissertation: a digital cartoon book that treats about the categories immaterial heritage and popular religiosity.
