Resumo:The responsible and sustainable management of water resources is a major concern of public management, where hydrological research can provide information for the sector of irrigation farmers, landowners and government officials decide on an appropriate management of water resources, causing there is less economic investment, increased agricultural production and future protection of water resources. Although Brazil has a large supply of fresh water, some regions are in a state of alert. Thus, it is increasingly important that preventive and corrective measures are taken to preserve water resources and maintain the same operating sustainably. However, this is only possible when one has knowledge about the real situation of these resources. In the management of water resources, geographical location and the relevant data in the characterization of the situation, such as evapotranspiration, were as important information for decision making. A new approach that uses the unit of evapotranspiration, mainly controlled by remote sensing, is adopted in water resources planning, monitoring and management. Remote sensing and management systems can be constructed of evapotranspiration in the basins, for improvement of quantitative data on the temporal variation of evapotranspiration for different land uses and periods of cultivation in the watersheds. Different algorithms that enable the estimation of this phenomenon on a regional scale based on satellite images have been developed in recent years, among which stands out SEBAL - Surface Energy Balance Algorithm for Land. Therefore, the lack of jobs and projects that may determine actual evapotranspiration basins of the semi-arid, makes evident a necessity of using remote sensing techniques and preparation of thematic maps, and other parameters derived from satellite images, where the monitoring of these basins will allow the identification of changes, anthropogenic or otherwise, that may occur in the basin of interest. And in view of the scarcity of water resources, which is severe in sub-basin Cruzeta reservoir, the management of these resources through evapotranspiration, derived primarily from satellite remote sensing will be a new approach introduced in the Project Monitoring Evaporation and Climate Change Rio Grande do Norte - MEVEMUC / RN.
