Resumo:To know which integrative and complementary health practices (PICS) are effective in relieving pain during labor. This is an integrative literature review that included articles indexed in the following databases: MEDLINE/PubMed, Embase and Web of Science, published between 2017 and 2021, in English, Portuguese and Spanish. The data collection period took place between September and December 2021. The descriptors were used: Labor, Complementary Therapies, Alternative medicine and Pain. After reading and analyzing the studies, nine articles were selected for the final sample, with different methodologies, developed in different countries and published in international journals. In all articles, it was possible to observe the effectiveness of integrative and complementary practices regarding pain relief in labor at different stages, with the use of non-pharmacological methods. PICS such as acupuncture, reflexology, yoga, music therapy, massage in the lumbar region, breathing techniques, therapeutic touch and aromatherapy have shown a good level of effectiveness when it comes to pain relief in labor, especially in the active phase. Added to this is the low cost of the practices, in addition to providing autonomy for the parturients and their companions.
