Resumo:In this context of pandemic and health crisis, where a lot of activities were suppressed considering the cautiousness and health preservation in the world, the importance of art has been showing in these difficult times. With the Potiguar capital wasn’t different: the demand for art consumption and forms of leisure increased in this period as well as we had cases of old experiences under a new perspective. The neighborhood cinemas, which in a few cities of the country managed to resist with much effort, disappeared completely from the sidewalks of the Rio Grande do Norte capital. In the current scenario, all movie theaters in Natal city follow the contemporary tendency to locate themselves in the “new” centers of commerce/collective leisure. Between the “advantages” of this new situation there are: comfort, safety, a parking lot and the good location. While at one end of the spectrum, there was a raise of the demand for “new” ways to consume cinema, at the other end we see the segregation of groups and social movements that do not conform to the standards defined by the malls, accumulators of urban uses. An important decision for choosing the old movie theater Rio Grande as an object of intervention was that, out of the buildings that worked as movie theaters, Rio Grande is the one who is currently more conserved. The worrying in its context is the absence of a listed heritage process, and how the change in the fabric of Natal city towards the old buildings, mainly the modernist examples, there is the increasing risk of being a memory only for those who have already experienced its full functioning. This scenario resulted in the construction of this work, whose objective is the elaboration of a preparatory study for the requalification project of the Cine Teatro Rio Grande, adapting it satisfactorily for the demands of cultural activities. For this, it was discussed the importance of the street cinema building for the development of the Potiguar capital, redeeming its equity value, and adjusting to the specifics of its activities. As a way to achieve the proper objectives, it was developed a theoretical and conceptual referential study about heritage preservation and acoustic comfort towards environments of cultural and artistic expression, a historic line construction of the Cine Teatro Rio Grande, along with the analysis of the design constituents of the work.
