Resumo:This work aims to describe how previous contact with a library, be it a School Library, University Library or Public Library, had an influence on the choice of undergraduates for the librarianship course at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte - UFRN. For that, the association of the evolution or development of our society in relation to information was made, showing that the library is a place where this information so important for the growth of the citizen can be offered with high quality, especially if this informational unit is under the management of an information professional. The types of libraries studied were defined and conceptualized with their individual characteristics and also taking into account the target audience of each one, the degree in librarianship was mentioned in a general way for the specific one, and in a more specific way we talk about the profiles of students and the UFRN course, extolling the librarian's action in informational units. In our methodological course methods were defined, corpus, we characterized the research with monographic, comparative and statistical methods; and the methodology was finalized with data collection actions using the questionnaire and bibliographic research. The results of the questionnaire were analyzed and it was concluded that most of the interviewees gave importance to the previous contact they had before joining the librarianship course when choosing this degree and that, in addition to contact with the library being important, contact with the librarian has a great relevance in this choice of area.
