In this sense, two hypotheses were formatted, the first that the municipalities have better financial condition in the election year and the second that municipalities that have candidates in their first mandate have better financial condition. In conducting the research, financial, electoral, and social data were collected from the 167 municipalities in RN. The analyzed period comprised the years between 2014 and 2020. Through statistical software, multiple regressions for panel data were applied. The results of the analysis indicated that the variables selected to represent the political cycles, specifically, electoral year and first term of a mayor, did not prove to be statistically significant for the explanation of the financial condition of the municipalities. This study contributed to the literature by exploring the relationship between both theories and bringing new findings to the defined sample context. O objetivo deste trabalho foi analisar o efeito dos ciclos políticos sobre a Condição Financeira dos municípios do Rio Grande do Norte. Neste sentido, foram formatadas duas hipóteses, a primeira de que os municípios têm melhor condição financeira no ano de eleição e a segunda de que municípios que possuem candidatos no primeiro mandato possuem melhor condição financeira. Na condução da pesquisa foram coletados dados financeiros, eleitorais e sociais dos 167 municípios do RN. O período analisado compreendeu os anos entre 2014 e 2020. Por meio de software Stata foram aplicadas regressões múltiplas para dados em painel. Os resultados da análise indicaram que as variáveis selecionadas para representar os ciclos políticos, especificamente, ano eleitoral e primeiro mandato de um prefeito, não demonstraram ser estatisticamente significantes para a explicação da condição financeira dos municípios.
