Resumo:This exploratory and descriptive research analyzes the perception of school managers about leadership and about the role of the school principal in a public education system in the county of Natal, Rio Grande do Norte. The study addresses some administrative theories and the role of this professional in the Municipal Centers of Early Childhood Education. It starts from the following question: how school principals pedagogical and aspects and administrative aspects in their workroutine?. The study aims to understand the importance of a school manager within a public organization and identify its main challenges.As methodological procedures the work rely on bibliographic and cocumentary research, and field research at three schools of the municipal network of Natal, in order to identify and understand the theoretical conceptions and relate with practice. This Works relies on authors such as Chiavenato (2003), Luck (2009), Maximiniano (2000) and Robbins (2005), in order to approach some administrative theoretical knowledge. The results show that the are two professional in the school: the administrative managers have the task of managing the resources that the school receives from the federal and municipal government and the pedagogical managers are concerned with the teaching and learning process of the students. As it was also clarified that both the pedagogical managers and the administrative manager work together, their activities depend on the two. This work also concludes that the role of the professional who deals with school administration has the student, as main objective in order to provide a quality education.
