Resumo:As a great catalyst for the regional economy, the port system is a base component for the socioeconomic growth of any location. This study presents a comparative analysis of the performance of parameters of the logistic infrastructure of the port of Natal/RN to those of Cabedelo/PB, Pecém/CE, Fortaleza/CE and Suape/PE. This analysis is linked to the description of the performance of tourist and export activities carried out through these ports located in the arc of the northeastern Brazilian coast. The thematic approach of port performance is associated in the study with aspects of export and tourist competitiveness of the states, since international trade is mostly linked to the maritime modal. The qualitative research was based on the multiple case study method, based on bibliographic surveys published by public and private entities responsible for the administration and management of these ports. In order to demonstrate the singularities of each port, its structure, geographic location and movement were highlighted. The port of Natal-RN is part of the infrastructure asset of Rio Grande do Norte and is therefore the main logistical vector for exports in the state. It was found that the port of Natal has some limitations, such as draft depth and retro area for stocking and cargo handling in relation to other ports, however, it has some competitive advantages, such os its privileged location and agility in its movement, among others.
