Urban growth and anthropic actions have contributed significantly to the increase of metals in soils, water and biota. In excessive concentrations, they can contaminate water resources and cause damage to human and animal health. This work discusses the seasonal variation of minor and trace elements in bottom sediments of the lower course of the Doce River, RN. Sample collection took place in previous research, between May 2012 and May 2013 at points LE (Extremoz Lagoon) and P3 (Doce River). The methodology of this work consisted on the definition of the geochemical signatures in the sediments, besides the preparation of graphs of rainfall and wind speed as a function of metal grades in the sediments. Finally, these variables were correlated using the Spearman Correlation Matrix. The concentrations of the analyzed metals Cu, Pb, Zn, Cr, Ni, Cd, Mo, Ag, Sn, V and As were higher in P3, indicating a greater contribution of metals at this point than in LE. The granulometric distribution of the samples is similar, with fine sand being the most abundant. At both points, the fine fraction is positively correlated with organic matter, which increases the uptake ability of heavy metals, which present a positive correlation with those variables. Carbonate presents higher correlations of metals with P3, indicating that, at this point, this variable increases the availability of metals. The wind speed is negatively correlated with the metals at the LE point, once the increase in wind speed is responsible for the mobilization of the elements to the water column and the decrease of their concentration in the sediments. Furthermore, the geochemical signatures of the sediments indicate that the metals Cu, Zn, V and Cd can be derived from anthropogenic sources; however, Pb, Cr, Ni, Sn, As, Mo and Ag do not differ significantly from the geogenic background adopted and have their concentrations in agreement with other studies carried out in the region of Natal and in the Rio Grande do Norte State. |

2022-03-03T12:59:19Z 2022-03-03T12:59:19Z 2022-02-14 bachelorThesis GRANGEIRO, Larissa Praxedes.
