Resumo:The 2018 presidential elections in Brazil demonstrated new electoral dynamics. In Natal/RN, the Social Liberal Party candidate victory, Jair Messias Bolsonaro, showed a trend of change in the behavior of the electorate in the Potiguar capital. And one of the ways to analyze and reach a possible understanding of the electoral behavior of the citizen is through a territorial analysis. Based on this premise, it was necessary to raise the following guiding question: What are the territorial factors that justify the electoral behavior in the Potiguar capital for the last five presidential elections? Based on this guiding question, the general objective is to analyze the electoral behavior in Natal, based on the territorial context of the vote, in the last five presidential elections (2002-2018). To support the research, the theoretical contribution was built through the concepts of Political Representation, Electoral Systems and Spatial Representation of Voting. Such concepts made it possible to understand that the voter's legitimation of the option to vote is established in view of the reading made in their place of life. To achieve the proposed objectives, the methodological procedure was based on the survey and collection of electoral data, with the Superior Electoral Court, and socioeconomic data, via the Natal City Hall and the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics. With the organized data, mapping and tabulation were made to identify possible changes or permanences regarding electoral choices for president coming from Natal voters, having the territory cutout to achieve the spatial representation of the vote. Therefore, the investigation allowed us to define a profile of the Natal electorate, which is mostly female and brown. Also, in the Electoral Zones where there is a greater black population, the lowest incomes and the lowest educational levels are observed in the state’s capital. At the same time, the research concluded that the voter's spatial condition of existence worsened, a fact that made room for new political ideals.
