Resumo:The frequency with which urban mobility has been debated in the context of urban planning reveals the importance of the theme that constitutes one of the main axes for the development of cities. Within these debates, issues related to public transport emerge as demands of urban mobility, as they represent today one of the most used means by societies for circulation in cities, constituting the basis of displacement, especially for the less affluent classes. Even with all this importance for the dynamics of the Metropolitan Region of Natal, there are numerous problems faced by users of this system and that occur at all levels from the end user (passengers) to service providers in both governmental and private spheres. In this sense, having as object of analysis the displacements that constitute the spatial relations and that are materialized in the functional arrangement of the Natal RMN, specifically for the municipalities of Extremoz, São Gonçalo do Amarante and Parnamirim, it is intended to understand this scenario through the set of theoretical and methodological references on urban mobility and socio-spatial organization. The complexity that involves the functioning of the urban environment and the actions that operate and condition the spatial organization of this environment are reflected in the spatial interactions between the different socially produced structures that make up this space, one of which is the movement of people. It is believed that the spatial interactions between the set of structures in residential areas; of central areas, considering the direction of daily flows and the circulation structure along the current expanded urban fabric of the RMN, provide spatial obstacles to the effective performance of the physical network of the Collective Public Transport System. In view of this scenario, this work presents as general objective: To understand how the integration process occurs in the Functional Metropolitan Region of Natal, through the relationship between the circulation structures and the Collective Public Transport System, having the Municipalities of Natal as an area of study , Parnamirim, São Gonçalo do Amarante and Extremoz, which together with the municipality of Macaíba constitute the Functional Metropolitan Region of Natal. And as specific objectives: a) Develop a periodization matrix in order to understand the genesis and dynamics of urban mobility in Natal and its functional NMR; b) Identify the main problems concerning the process of integrating public transport in the municipalities under analysis; c) analyze the quality of public transport on these bus lines; d) Produce maps that allow analyzing the distribution and quality of infrastructure and equipment that allow this (dis)integration; e) propose mitigating measures for the problems faced. As the topics dealt with in this research are quite complex, the achievement of the objectives listed will be possible from the association between theoretical contributions and the application of different techniques of spatial analysis.
