description Introduction: In March 2020, the World Health Organization classified the disease caused by the SARs-CoV2 virus, Covid-19, as a pandemic. The world had to change its life routine suddenly, in the meantime, and the sporting field was also affected. All sporting events have to be cancelled. Among them, the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, one of the most important competitions of the sportive calendar. As a result, athletes had to interrupt their training routines, not being able access to their training facilities, coaches, trainers, training partners, etc. They were forced to adapt their training to be performed at home or in inappropriate places, in an attempt to maintain a minimum of their physical shape and avoid a possible performance decrement. Objectives: This study aimed to analyze the impacts of social isolation on the performance of male athletes in the 100 meters. Methods: A survey was made of the results of the 100 best athletes of this event, in competitions around the world, between the years 2016 to 2021, taken from the World Athletics website. Results: The repeated-measures ANOVA showed a significant effect (Ps<0.05) of the season on the absolute time and for absolute and relative performance variation on the 100 m. Specifically, the performance in 2020 season (10.19±0.22 s) was significantly worse than the 2018 (10.06 ± 0.13 s), 2019 (10.05 ± 0.11 s), and 2021 (10.08±0.16 s) seasons. In addition, the absolute and relative performance variation was significantly greater (Ps<0.05) in the 19/20 season (0,137 ± 0,215 s; 1,491 ± 2,143 %) than in the 16/17 (0.002±0.207 s; 0.050±2.088 %), 17/18 (-0.063±0,218 s; -0.665±2,084 %), 18/19 (-0.008±0.141 s; -0.084±1.459 %), and 20/21 (-0.106±0.225 s; 1.072±2.128 %) seasons. Conclusion: The results of this study indicated that there was a change in the performance of elite athletes in the 100-meter sprint in the 2019/2020 season, possibly caused by measures to contain Covid-19.

Conclusion: The results of this study indicated that there was a change in the performance of elite athletes in the 100-meter sprint in the 2019/2020 season, possibly caused by measures to contain Covid-19. 2022. 22f.
