Resumo:Introduction: Tooth whitening is the most performed procedure in the treatment oh chromatic alterations. Despite this, tooth sensitivity is still the most common na unwanted adverse effect in the various whitening techniques. Goal: To analyze the effect of laser therapy in the treatment of tooth sensitivity after in-office tooth whitening. Methodology: The pain sensitivity was verified in 3 female volunteers, by a pilot study of a clinical trial through a blind clinical essay (to the patients), utilizing a method known as split-mouth. All the participants in this pilot study were subjected to 2 sessions of clinical whitening (Whiteness HP 35% by FGM) and at the end of every session, the hemiarches were randomly placed into two groups: DS (desensitizer application - Desensibilize KF 2% by FGM) and DL (desensitizer + low power laser - PhotonLase III, DMC). Sensitivity assessment was performed at 3 times: initially, before exposure do the gel, immediately after de bleaching and desensitizing protocol and in addition, a Hipersensitivity Diary was given to the patient to record the first 24 hours after each cleaching session. Results: both groups registered satisfactory chromatic changes and there was no difference between the initial sensitivity level and immediately after the desensitizing protocol. In the assessment of late sensitivity, 3 different results were recorded: patient 1 maintained the degree of sensitivity stable; patient 2 had na increase and patient 3 had reduced sensitivity. Conclusion: the AsGaAl laser operated ate 808 nm had no effect on reducing tooth sensitivity caused by high concentrations of H2O2.
