Neoplasms are characterized by the disordered and uncontrollable development of cells in the body, thus materializing malignant neoplasms, in which cells that multiply and have the ability to invade other organs and tissues. Cancer is an ancient disease, identified since the era of Hippocrates, which has grown considerably throughout the world. Genes, therefore, being segments of a DNA molecule, characterized by the presence of a specific DNA sequence containing a code for the production of a protein responsible for certain functions in the body, can undergo changes and trigger the emergence of different types of cancer. The MUTYH gene is a base excision repair enzyme with a fundamental role in correcting DNA errors in guanine oxidation and is also considered a cellular protection factor. The largest number of studies carried out refers to the association between the Mutyh gene and the development of colorectal cancer, being verified that patients with this type of neoplasm have more mutation variants in this gene and the non-functional Mutyh predisposes to carcinogenesis. As neoplasias são caracterizadas pelo desenvolvimento desordenado e incontrolável de células no organismo, concretizando-se, portanto, neoplasias malignas, nas quais as células que se multiplicam e possuem a capacidade de invadir outros órgãos e tecidos. O câncer é uma doença antiga, identificada desde a era de Hipócrates, a qual cresceu consideravelmente em todo o mundo. Os genes sendo, portanto, segmentos de uma molécula de DNA, caracterizado pela presença de uma sequência específica de DNA contendo um código para produção de proteína responsável por determinadas funções no corpo podem sofrer alterações e desencadear o surgimento de diferentes tipos de câncer. Sendo o gene mutyh uma enzima de reparo de excisão de base com papel fundamental na correção dos erros de DNA da oxidação da guanina e também é considerado um fator de proteção celular.
