Resumo:Permanent Preservation Areas (APPs) are places that can be covered or not by vegetation with the main functions of: preserving water resources, landscape, geological stability, biodiversity in addition to ensuring the well-being of human populations. Despite the existence of extensive and complete regulations addressing APPs, there is still a lack of public environmental planning policies aimed at controlling and balancing the anthropic environment and the natural environment. Thus, with the use of geoprocessing techniques and the help of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), this research carried out a systemic survey in the Permanent Preservation Areas present in the Pirangi River sub-basin/RN, one of the main sources that supply the municipality of Natal. The main objectives were: quantification, analysis and identification of the existence of Land Use and Occupancy conflicts in the place. The methodology used to obtain the results was first summarized in the characterization of the environmental parameters of the study area, followed by the creation of a georeferenced digital database containing: vector data in shapefile format, digital models of terrain elevation and images from the sentinel satellite -two. Then, in possession of the digital data, using the technique of visual mapping on the screen of satellite images, the following secondary data were generated: Land Use and Occupation, delimitation of the APPs of the study site, delimitation of the terrain slope and the compilation of existing agricultural properties in the place, it is worth mentioning that, as a guiding object, the Brazilian Forest Code was used, which discusses the rules for these areas. Finally, the secondary data obtained was merged. The results showed that, in the region, the occupation of APPs by agricultural activities corresponds to 27.47% of the total of these. In this way, it is concluded that, in fact, in the region, what is recommended by law is not followed and supervised in the way it should, causing, due to this, a great impact in the region.
