Resumo:Special school feeding for students with Special Dietary Needs (NAE) is a right guaranteed by law no. 12.982 of 2014. In this perspective, the present study sought to evaluate the provision of special school feeding aimed at students with NAE, users of the PNAE, from state public schools in a geographic area of the city of Natal-RN. This is a descriptive and exploratory cross-sectional research with a quali-quantitative approach. The sampling was by convenience and included 26 individuals in total, comprising two groups of participants, 24 school professionals from schools and 2 nutritionists from DRAE/RN. For data collection, a questionnaire was used to evaluate general characteristics and flow of care, with data insertion in Microsoft Excel® spreadsheets for tabulation and analysis of variables. The findings showed some discrepancies between the perceptions of the two groups of participants. According to the school professionals, the tracking of students with NAE was carried out by 16 (66.7%) of the 24 school units evaluated. Nutritionists reported that all schools performed the tracking. Among the most recurrent NAE in the school environment were food intolerance (lactose and gluten), pre-diabetes and diabetes mellitus, food allergy (milk and egg protein) and systemic arterial hypertension. Only 07 schools reported having students with NAE and, of these, 06 offered special feeding, however, school professionals reported that these schools did not have a differentiated school menu, but received guidance from nutritionists to make adaptations of the usual menu. On the other hand, nutritionists reported that they prepared the special menu and guidelines. The verification of a medical certificate from the NAE was carried out by only 03 school units, on the contrary, the nutritionists indicated that all schools verified the document. It is concluded that the reality of the service offered presented several weaknesses, evidencing the need for structuring and improving a flow with better communication between the sectors and actors of the PNAE, to guarantee an integral and adequate service.
