Resumo:Payments for Environmental Services (PSA), an instrument of the policy to encourage environmental preservation and recovery of degraded areas, performs an alternative measure to guarantee socio-environmental well-being, based on the principle of the protector-receiving. In order to verify the breadth of scientific work developed about this new territorial and water management instrument, this work proposes to carry out a Bibliometric Analysis on Payments for Environmental Services (PES) in Brazil, quantitatively and qualitatively analyzing the progress of this topic in the scientific community. This analysis is based on the retrieval of online data from the Scopus platform, where a total of 175 publications were retrieved, in the scientific article modality. The study continues with the understanding of 7 major topics, namely: (1) number of publications per year; (2) productivity, number of publications by institutions and countries; (3) international collaboration, the co-authorship map between authors and countries; (4) citation analysis, authors and most cited articles; (5) main areas of study; (6) keyword frequency; and finally, (7) narrative synthesis. It was found that, even though the PSA is a new territorial and water management mechanism, in Brazil and on a global scale there is a constant growth in academic production on the subject and that countries such as the USA, the United Kingdom and Germany the largest number of collaborations of studies published in Brazil. It was also possible to understand the inevitable complexity of implementing PES on national soil, making evident the multidisciplinary work presented in the articles studied, when their objective is to propose a structure for the application of the project on national or international soil. Thus, the adoption of Payment for Environmental Services in Brazil, as an alternative measure to guarantee socio-environmental well-being, proved to be promising, but complex, with pessimistic and optimistic academic views about it. Furthermore, Bibliometric Analysis proved to be effective in assessing recent research trends and contributing to researchers and governments in the management and decision-making of PES.
