description This dissertation, entitled "When the people come together, power spreads - Female Protagonism in the fight in defense of the traditional fishing territory of Enxu Queimado/RN", is the result of field research carried out in the fishing traditional community Enxu Queimado, located on the north coast of Rio Grande do Norte, 142km from Natal-RN. Faced with a territorial conflict experienced by the community, a group of women who were organized with the purpose of making it possible to achieve financial autonomy through handicrafts, came together to create the Committee for Resistance in Defense of the Traditional Fishing Territory of Enxu Queimado. Of these women and the history in the community's memory (ALENCAR, 2010) by Enxu Queimado, the kinship relations between the first residents and the women who make up the Committee, the history of these women's political articulation and the empowerment processes experienced by them. Therefore, we carried out ethnographic research with participant observation, semi-structured interviews, bibliographic and documentary research, as well as the use of photographs to build visual narratives during field research. With an emphasis on feminist epistemology, we seek to analyze the role of women in traditional fishing communities, questioning the silencing and invisibility that, historically, fishing women face (ALENCAR, 1991). We could see that the women's movement in Enxu Queimado has historical roots related to the role of women not only the protagonists of care, but also of fishing, survival and the social organization of the community since its origins, as well as in the history of participation in social movements linked to popular education that boosted the political articulation of leading women.

A presente dissertação, intitulada “Quando o povo se junta o poder se espalha” - Protagonismo Feminino na luta em defesa do território tradicional de pesca de Enxu Queimado/RN”, é fruto da pesquisa de campo realizada na comunidade tradicional pesqueira Enxu Queimado, localizada no litoral norte potiguar a 142km de Natal-RN. Um conflito territorial vivido pela comunidade, acionou um grupo de mulheres que estava organizado com o propósito de viabilizar a conquista da autonomia financeira através do artesanato, se articula para criar o Comitê de Resistência em Defesa do Território Tradicional de Pesca de Enxu Queimado. Frente a esse cenário, busquei conhecer, nesta pesquisa, como se dá o protagonismo feminino na comunidade tradicional, quais as origens desse movimento de mulheres, a trajetória dessas mulheres e a própria história na memória da comunidade (ALENCAR, 2010) de Enxu Queimado, as relações de parentesco entre os primeiros moradores e as mulheres que compõem o Comitê, o histórico de articulação política dessas mulheres e os processos de empoderamento vivenciados por elas. Para tanto, realizamos pesquisa etnográfica com observação participante, entrevistas semiestruturadas, levantamento bibliográfico e documental, bem como o uso das fotografias para construir narrativas visuais durante a pesquisa de campo. Busquei também analisar o protagonismo feminino nas comunidades tradicionais pesqueiras, questionando o silenciamento e a invisibilidade que, historicamente, as mulheres da pesca enfrentam (ALENCAR, 1991).
