Resumo:The high rates of maternal mortality in developing countries have challenged researchers and government programs in order to reduce these rates. Setting new goals for sustainable development is necessary to intensify actions and to eradicate preventable deaths, improving maternal and neonatal care. Postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) is an important direct obstetric cause, being responsible for a large part of severe maternal morbidities, such as prolonged hospital stays, the need for blood transfusions and surgical procedures that can lead to loss of reproductive function. The aim of this study was to develop a protocol for the management of postpartum hemorrhage at the Hospital Regional Mariano Coelho in Currais Novos/RN. Therefore, the method of convergent care research (PCA) was used, based on the inclusion of research in care activities, uniting know-how to think with know-how. This method is characterized by the convergence between research and health care actions, and the researcher is responsible for being involved at the same time as the actions. The PCA is governed by concepts such as dialogicity, expandability, immersion and simultaneity and comprises four different phases, namely: conception, instrumentation, scrutiny and analysis, which range from choosing the research topic to contextualizing its results. Therefore, this study is expected to provide information for planning actions aimed at managing postpartum hemorrhage that enable safe maternal and child care. In addition, protocols created based on current scientific evidence encourage the promotion of adequate care by enabling the reduction of the variability of health care. In addition to assisting in the integration of professionals in work processes, considering ethical aspects and the accuracy of diagnoses, providing greater therapeutic efficacy by discouraging harmful and ineffective interventions.
