The present work aimed to make a historical survey on the taxonomic status of species described for the Potiguar Basin marine sequence taxa. Additionally, this manuscript contains the taxonomic identification, a review on the morphometric diversity, and ichnofossil identification and classification of the Potiguar Basin irregular echinoids deposited in Laboratório de Paleontologia of Departamento de Geologia (DG) of the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) collection. The historical survey revealed that there are currently three irregular echinoid genera and three regular echinoid genera valid in the Jandaíra Formation. Among the 220 irregular echinoids analyzed in the collection of the Laboratório de Paleontologia do DG-UFRN, 150 specimens were identified as Petalobrissus Lambert, 1916 and 70 individuals were identified as Mecaster Pomel, 1883. Not a single specimen of Coenholectypus Pomel, 1883 has been found. Among all specimens analyzed, only 101 had information on the fossil site locality. Professor Leon Diniz collected all the specimens studied before the 1990s, in eight different outcrops in the surroundings of the Governador Dix-sept Rosado municipality, RN. For the morphometric study, 70 better-preserved individuals were selected. Length, width, and height of the test were measured, contributing to the knowledge of the species descriptive measures, specially Petalobrissus cubensis Weisbord, 1934 e P. setifensis Cotteau, 1866. Ichnofossil analysis revealed linear, circular, and irregular traces, similar to the ones classified by Farrar (2020). However, other morphotypes that do not fit in previous classifications were also found: zigzag, concave, and reticulate. All of them were probably produced by other invertebrate groups, such as annelids and mollusks. Finally, the paleoichnological analysis brings new paleoecological information and the first described ichnofossils in echinoid tests from the Potiguar Basin.

Os estudos sobre equinodermos fósseis na Bacia Potiguar têm pouco menos de cem anos. Desde então, o foco tem sido a sua taxonomia, ou seja, a determinação dos grupos e espécies às quais pertencem esses organismos. O presente trabalho objetivou fazer um levantamento histórico sobre a situação taxonômica das espécies descritas até o momento para a sequência marinha da Bacia Potiguar. Além disso, realizou-se a identificação taxonômica, o levantamento morfométrico e identificação preliminar de icnitos associados aos equinóides irregulares da Bacia Potiguar, depositados na coleção do Laboratório de Paleontologia do Departamento de Geologia (DG) da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN). Na revisão histórica, encontrou-se que, atualmente, são conhecidos três gêneros de equinóides irregulares e três gêneros de equinóides regulares na Formação Jandaíra. Dos 220 equinóides irregulares analisados na coleção do Laboratório de Paleontologia do DG-UFRN, foram identificados 150 representantes do gênero Petalobrissus Lambert, 1916 e 70 espécimes do gênero Mecaster Pomel, 1883. Não foram encontrados representantes do gênero Coenholectypus Pomel, 1883. Entre todos os espécimes analisados, apenas 101 possuem localidade definida, todos eles coletados pelo Professor Leon Diniz, antes dos anos 1990, entre oito afloramentos diferentes nos arredores da cidade de Governador Dix-sept Rosado, RN. Para o estudo morfométrico dos espécimes, 70 indivíduos melhor preservados foram selecionados. Nestes, foram obtidas as medidas o comprimento, a largura e a altura da carapaça, o que permitiu somar ao conhecimento sobre as medidas descritivas das espécies, sobretudo Petalobrissus cubensis Weisbord, 1934 e P. setifensis Cotteau, 1866. Na análise de icnofósseis, foram identificadas formas lineares, circulares e irregular, semelhantes às classificadas por Farrar e colaboradores (2020), porém também foram encontrados outros morfotipos que não se enquadram nas classificações anteriores: zigue-zague, côncavos e reticulados. Todos teriam sido produzidos por grupos de invertebrados, incluindo anelídeos e moluscos.
