The objective of this study was to inventory the odonates from the Coleção Entomológica Adalberto Antônio Varela-Freire and their storage conditions, to identify the specimens and to indicate measures of curatorship to ensure their long term preservation in accordance to practices conventionally adopted by other entomological collections. A total of 3181 specimens was inventoried, most preserved dry, kept in envelopes in varying conditions (2319 specimens) or ethanol (860 specimens). The identified specimens belong to 2 families (Aeshnidae and Libellulidae) and 14 genera, some of which were recorded for the first time in Rio Grande do Norte. Two hundred specimens were curated, with the major changes being the use of poliethylene zipper lock envelopes and printed labels with data obtained through the processo of inventory. This study increases to 18 the number of species/genera recorded from the state. Even though the number of localities represented in the collection was limited, it still constitutes an important record of the state’s dragonfly fauna, which should be further studied and have its data uploaded to public biodiversity databases, so that it becomes more accessible to researchers and to the general population as well. Os odonatos constituem uma ordem de insetos com ampla distribuição geográfica, popularmente conhecidos como libélulas e donzelinhas. São predadores e estão associados aos ecossistemas aquáticos. Os objetivos deste trabalho foram inventariar os odonatos da Coleção Entomológica Adalberto Antônio Varela-Freire e suas formas de armazenamento, identificar parte dos espécimes e propor medidas de curadoria que visassem sua preservação a longo prazo e de acordo com as convenções adotadas em coleções entomológicas. Foi inventariado um total de 3181 indivíduos. Estes espécimes estavam em sua maioria acondicionados secos, em envelopes diversos (2319 espécimes), ou em via úmida (860 espécimes). Os exemplares identificados pertenciam a 2 famílias (Aeshnidae e Libellulidae) e 14 gêneros, alguns deles registrados pela primeira vez no Rio Grande do Norte. Duzentos exemplares foram submetidos ao processo de curadoria, no qual as principais mudanças previam a adoção de envelopes do tipo “zipper lock” e a impressão de etiquetas a partir das informações obtidas no processo de elaboração do inventário. Com este trabalho, sobe para 18 o número de gêneros conhecidos para o estado.
