Resumo:INTRODUCTION: The addition of filler particles to the organic matrix of composite resins results in a better mechanical behavior of the material. OBJECTIVES: Evaluate the polymerization depth (PP) of a composite resin with addition of diatomite. METHODOLOGY: Twenty disc-shaped samples (4.8 x 2.8 x 4.0) were made from the selection of bovine incisors, being 2 groups of 10 (n=10) samples for each evaluated resin; a conventional Filtek Z350 XT resin (3M ESPE®), and a resin with added Zirconfill diatomite (BM4®). The restoration of the prepared conical cavities was performed incrementally, using the semi-direct technique, and the cementation of the part was performed with the dual self-etching resin cement RelyX Ultimate (3M ESPE®). After cementation, the samples were stored for 24 hours in an oven at 37ºC. PP was measured by the base/top ratio, using the Vickers Microhardness test. The analysis of the means of the groups was obtained through the t test (p<0.05), using the GraphPad Prism 7.0 software. RESULTS: There were no statistically significant differences between conventional resin (Z350 XT) and resin with addition of diatomite (Zirconfill) in the evaluation of PP. CONCLUSION: The tested resins had a similar behavior.
