Resumo:Postpartum haemorrhage occurs when there is blood loss above 500 ml after vaginal delivery or above 1000 ml when related to caesarean section within the first 24 hours, or any blood loss through the genital route that can cause hemodynamic instability. The objective of this study was to implement a management protocol of post-partum haemorrhage at the Monsenhor Antônio Barros Regional Hospital, in the municipality of São José de Mipibu/ RN. That is a team work project developed with the managers, nursing team and obstetrician doctors that have been workingat this hospital lately. As a result, the following interventions were carried out: awareness of managers, nurses, nursing technicians and doctors on the subject; development of a training for the nursing team (nurses / nursing technicians) of the hospital; reviewing of a protocol and a flow chart for women with postpartum haemorrhage against the currently procedures, besides the implementation of non-pharmacological and pharmacological measures. With the implementation of the actions, it was observed that the nursing practices began to providegreater safety, autonomy and resolution, reflecting skills and competencies learned during the course of specialization in Obstetrical Nursing and, materialized in the process of awareness and training of the professionals in question, based on the following basic assumptions: prevention, diagnosis and treatment of postpartum haemorrhage through holistic, efficient, safe and especially humanized care, in accordance with the guidelines and recommendations of the Ministry of Health / Stork Network. It is hoped that with the implementation of this protocol, the behaviours will become more uniform, guaranteeing a comprehensive, harmless and error-free and above all, humanized assistance.
