description Objective: To identify the attributions of the Dental Surgeon available in the literature, in the context of health care for the elderly. Methodology: This is an Integrative Literature Review (RIL) study. Data were collected in Science Direct, SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online), PubMed, BVS (Virtual Health Library) and manual search on Google Scholar, including articles published between 2014 and 2019. The descriptors used for the collection were : “Assignments”, “professional competence”, “dentistry”, “primary care” and “elderly”. During the initial search, 4,073 articles were found, of which 129 were selected for analysis, 122 of which were discarded due to duplication, for not meeting the eligibility criteria or for not addressing the topic of interest. In the end, the sample had a total of 07 articles. Results and discussion: The main duties listed were: ensuring comprehensive health care for the elderly, providing home care, providing guidance to the elderly, family members and / or caregivers, in addition to conducting a consultation, offering a clinical picture, issuing a diagnosis and performing restorative treatment when needed. In addition, the studies analyzed include the responsibility of the dentist to carry out actions to promote health and disease prevention and multidisciplinary care, through working with the physician responsible for the Family Health Strategy (FHS). Conclusion: As a primary care dentist, it is the responsibility of the dentist to provide health care for the elderly in an effective and efficient manner, reaching this group and reversing the neglect observed in relation to the oral health of this population. To this end, it is necessary that the dentist has knowledge of their duties, in order to establish their functions and guide actions to be developed with this population group.

Objetivo: Identificar as atribuições do Cirurgião-Dentista disponíveis da literatura, no contexto da atenção à saúde da pessoa idosa. Metodologia: Trata-se de um estudo do tipo Revisão Integrativa da Literatura (RIL). Os dados foram coletados nas bases Science Direct, SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online), PubMed, BVS (Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde) e busca manual no Google Acadêmico, sendo incluídos os artigos publicados entre 2014 a 2019. Os descritores utilizados para a coleta foram: “atribuições”, “competência profissional”, “odontologia”, “Atenção básica” e “idoso”. Durante a busca inicial foram encontrados 4.073 artigos, dos quais 129 foram selecionados para análise, sendo 122 descartados por motivos de duplicação, por não atender aos critérios de elegibilidade ou por não abordarem a temática de interesse. No final, a amostra contou com um total de 07 artigos. Resultados e discussão: As principais atribuições elencadas foram: garantir uma atenção integral a saúde do idoso, realizar assistência domiciliar, prestar orientações a pessoa idosa, aos familiares e/ou cuidador, além de, realizar consulta, oferecer quadro clínico, emitindo diagnóstico e realizar tratamento restaurador, quando necessário. Ademais, os estudos analisados incluem como responsabilidades do dentista a realização de ações de promoção a saúde e prevenção de doenças e o cuidado multidisciplinar, através da atuação junto ao médico responsável da Estratégia de Saúde da Família (ESF). Conclusão: É responsabilidade do cirurgião-dentista da Atenção Básica prover uma atenção à saúde da pessoa idosa de maneira eficaz e eficiente, atingindo esse grupo e revertendo o descaso observado em relação a saúde bucal dessa população.
