Resumo:Objective: To identify the attributions of the Dental Surgeon available in the literature, in the context of health care for the elderly. Methodology: This is an Integrative Literature Review (RIL) study. Data were collected in Science Direct, SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online), PubMed, BVS (Virtual Health Library) and manual search on Google Scholar, including articles published between 2014 and 2019. The descriptors used for the collection were : “Assignments”, “professional competence”, “dentistry”, “primary care” and “elderly”. During the initial search, 4,073 articles were found, of which 129 were selected for analysis, 122 of which were discarded due to duplication, for not meeting the eligibility criteria or for not addressing the topic of interest. In the end, the sample had a total of 07 articles. Results and discussion: The main duties listed were: ensuring comprehensive health care for the elderly, providing home care, providing guidance to the elderly, family members and / or caregivers, in addition to conducting a consultation, offering a clinical picture, issuing a diagnosis and performing restorative treatment when needed. In addition, the studies analyzed include the responsibility of the dentist to carry out actions to promote health and disease prevention and multidisciplinary care, through working with the physician responsible for the Family Health Strategy (FHS). Conclusion: As a primary care dentist, it is the responsibility of the dentist to provide health care for the elderly in an effective and efficient manner, reaching this group and reversing the neglect observed in relation to the oral health of this population. To this end, it is necessary that the dentist has knowledge of their duties, in order to establish their functions and guide actions to be developed with this population group.
