Based on theoretical contributions and subsidized by a field research, which used a focus group approach, the text seeks to apprehend the perception of the research participants about the experience of physical punishment in their childhood and about the use of physical punishment in their children's educational process. children, in addition also discusses the importance of health policy in preventing and combating physical violence, especially physical punishment. The results indicated that, although we have advanced in the literature and legislation, since the use of physical punishment is currently restricted in the legal frameworks governing the rights of children and adolescents, the cultural issues and the experience of this method in the educational process in Brazil. childhood, are still being used as an argument for their use today. Este artigo traz considerações sobre a utilização do castigo físico na educação de crianças por meio da percepção das mães participantes das consultas de crescimento e desenvolvimento da Unidade Básica de Saúde Enfermeira Maria das Dores. Com base em aportes teóricos e subsidiado por uma pesquisa de campo, que utilizou a técnica de Grupo focal, este estudo tem como objetivo apreender a percepção das participantes da pesquisa sobre a vivência dos castigos físicos na sua infância; identificar a opinião das participantes sobre o uso castigo físico no processo educativo de seus filhos e discutir sobre a importância da política de saúde na prevenção da violência física, especialmente o castigo físico.
