| Resumo: | This article discusses the use of physical punishment in the education of children through the perception of mothers participating in growth and development consultations (CD) of the Basic Health Unit Nurse Maria das Dores. Based on theoretical contributions and subsidized by a field research, which used a focus group approach, the text seeks to apprehend the perception of the research participants about the experience of physical punishment in their childhood and about the use of physical punishment in their children's educational process. children, in addition also discusses the importance of health policy in preventing and combating physical violence, especially physical punishment.
