For this, we start from the understanding of the historical formation of the community, in order to understand the conflict, the political and historical importance of memory statement. Methodologically this work develops from the construction of oral source and its theoretical assumptions discussion about memory and present history in Jacques Le Goff and Pierre Nora and analysis of identity developed by Stuart Hall and Tomaz Tadeu da Silva. O presente artigo tem como objetivo estudar o processo de formação histórico e identitário da comunidade Quilombola Negros da Macambira – Lagoa Nova- RN, analisando a importância da expressão de uma memória secular de origem sobre a posse das terras e a reconstrução de uma identidade quilombola após o processo de reconhecimento, a partir dos relatos dos moradores. Para isso, partimos da compreensão da formação histórica da comunidade, de modo a perceber os conflitos, a importância política e histórica de afirmação da memória.
