Resumo:This monograph begins with a look at the historical and artistic public heritage in the public squares of the city of Natal / RN, as well as preserve, preserve, maintain and even on the tipping of the national and local patrimony and which are the responsible organs by the same. The Brazilian legal system is considered as a legal basis. We address the importance of artistic heritage in the public squares and sidewalks listed in the municipality by the competent bodies and the intervention of these by the Municipal Government and the private, in case it needs restoration. Next, the current situation of artistic heritage (statues, busts, artistic panels) was discussed in the urban squares, seeing their damages and the lack of commitment of political agents for the permanence of their good conditions of use leaving them to the air of abandonment. It also dealt with the neglect of the local Public Administration and citizens with public art in urban squares registering the lack of protection with public goods in the free spaces of the city. The maintenance and current diagnosis of the artistic patrimony in the public squares came to the fore in one of the subitems of this work. The right of preservation and the social function were also addressed, evidencing the environment. Revitalizing the squares and public art works of the city is the opportunity for the people to return to public places, seeking solutions through programs of adoption of these spaces, still listing varied suggestions to be put into practice and give credibility and return to the public squares.
