We believe that mathematical games go beyond a mere distraction to break the hardness numbers. They can, and should, be a tool that the teacher can use to call the attention of the learner for certain content that the teacher wishes to transmit. This Latu Sensu postgraduate aims to analyze an article extracted from the Revista do Professor de Matemática (RPM) on the game of Nim, Carlos Alberto V. de Melo authored, entitled “The Game of Nim, a divisive issue”, emphasizing the use of the game as a tool to inculcate in the student the use of mental calculation for solving mathematical problems. As recreações e curiosidades matemáticas têm como principal foco transformar a dureza dos números e a exigência de raciocínio lógico matemático numa brincadeira ao mesmo tempo útil e recreativa. Acreditamos que os jogos matemáticos vão além de uma mera distração para quebrar a dureza dos números. Eles podem, e devem, ser uma ferramenta que o professor pode lançar mão para aumentar o interesse do educando para determinado conteúdo que se deseje transmitir.
