We developed in this work a study about the 2nd degree equations, from reflections and
discussions on the evolutionary elements present in the history of the equation. We point
out, the history of mathematics and its importance to the mathematics teaching process. Here
are some considerations about the 2nd degree equation, highlighting some scholars and the
guidelines of the CPN (BRAZIL, 1997; 1998). We develop our studies directed by a
chronological and evolutionary line how did the first historical records and the method of
resolution. The starting point for the emergence or record, consists of Egyptian civilization
in its papyri represented the results of their studies. still emerged the Babylonians
(Mesopotamians) presenting their solutions as "recipes" for that problem. Already the
Greeks showed results over algebraic and geometric nature, going beyond the other
civilizations, constructing a theory to support their studies. The Arabs also developed a
treatise on the six types of equations produced a formula for each type of equation. When
analyzing the approach carried out by Hindu civilization, we see that it is produced very
important results, the method of completing squares and also the quadratic formula, which
presented a method for obtaining solution that is used today. Already the Chinese have
developed a method to determine the solution. European turn showed significant results,
showing different way to obtain the solution set of roots of the equation. In the present
context we see that the formula is Bhaskara that is used in mathematics teaching in Brazil. |

In the present context we see that the formula is Bhaskara that is used in mathematics teaching in Brazil.
