Resumo:When a sentence restricting freedom is applied to an individual who violated the legal order, it is believed that after the sentence has been served, that person is ready to return to social life in harmony. However, this goal is not being reached, proof of this are the numerous cases of recidivism. Education in the prison system is extremely important, not only for prisoners, but for society as a whole. It alone cannot resocialize these subjects, but it is the basis of the process. In this study, dissertation on education as a resocialization tool for inmates of the Seridó State Penitentiary, Judge Francisco Pereira da Nóbrega, located in the city of Caicó / RN. Sixty-eight inmates enrolled in this study, enrolled from literacy to higher education in addition to teachers and professionals from the prisoner assistance team. For data collection, semi-structured, physical and virtual questionnaires were carried out, with open and closed questions, aiming to identify aspects such as: the profile of contributors; infrastructure of the educational activities environment; materials and resources made available, and a view of imprisoned people about education and their study and work prospects when granted their freedom. In the analysis and treatment of the data, recent studies by authors such as Azevedo (2018), Craidy (2010), Julião (2016) and Silva (2017) were used, organized and systematized in graphics and transcripts. Therefore, it was found that most respondents view professional education as an opportunity to start over outside the prison walls. Many stated that they aim to continue their studies for prison or dream of attending college. The spaces used for classes are in a good state of conservation, with the number of professionals needed to carry out the educational activities. The quality of teaching materials for regular education and professional courses remains to be desired. It is essential to highlight future developments of this study, such as the creation and implementation of public policies that expand formal education and provide opportunities for a greater number of prisoners and former people to have access to professional education. It is worth highlighting the importance of professional training courses being consistent with the relevant reality and the need for agreements so that they can be inserted in the labor market, if this means the recurrence of crimes and achieving the objective of resocialization of the penalty due to freedom.
