The archaeological tourism segment developed in a planned and sustainable manner can be a beneficial activity for the city that adheres it, protecting the heritage visited, and still contributing to the local economy. Therefore, this study aims to: Identify the obstacles which prevent the development of archaeological tourism in the municipality of Parelhas/RN, making a comparative analysis with the municipality of Carnauba dos Dantas/RN, where the segment is already developed, for that it was necessary the application of questionnaires with the tourism secretaries of both municipalities, sites owners studied, which are the Mirador in Parelhas and Xique-Xique I in Carnauba dos Dantas, with the tour guides responsible by sites, and also with the residents in both cities, to understand what their perception about the archaeological tourism, and from them, identify what they believe to be important to the development of the segment. As result , were identified that will be necessary a greater involvement by municipal authorities (secretary and mayor), as well as, attention the Mirador site owners, and also was identified the lack of qualified people to work as a tour guide in the city.

O presente trabalho tem como tema principal o turismo arqueológico, que é um segmento do turismo que possibilita a interação com os vestígios deixados pelos antepassados, possibilitando assim, o conhecimento a cerca de suas tradições, vivências, crenças, etc. Este segmento pode ser realizado em sítios arqueológicos, que se caracterizam por possuir representações do cotidiano desses povos, como principal exemplo cita-se as pinturas rupestres, predominantes nos sítios arqueológicos do Seridó, que será a área específica desse trabalho. O segmento de turismo arqueológico se desenvolvido de forma planejada e sustentável, pode ser uma atividade benéfica para o município que a adere, protegendo o patrimônio visitado, e ainda contribuindo para a economia local. Com isso, este trabalho tem como objetivo: Identificar os entraves que impedem o desenvolvimento do turismo arqueológico no município de Parelhas/RN, fazendo uma análise comparativa com o município de Carnaúba dos Dantas/RN, onde o segmento já está desenvolvido, para isso, foram necessárias a aplicação de formulários com os secretários de turismo de ambos os municípios, proprietários dos sítios estudados, que são o Mirador de Parelhas e o Xique-Xique I de Carnaúba dos Dantas, com os guias responsáveis por levar os visitantes até os sítios, e com os moradores dos dois municípios para entender assim qual a percepção deles a respeito do turismo arqueológico, e a partir deles identificar o que eles acreditam ser importante para que haja o desenvolvimento do segmento.
