Resumo:This work has as main theme the archaeological tourism, which is a segment of tourism that allows interaction with the traces left by ancestors, thus allowing knowledge about their traditions, experiences, beliefs, etc. This segment can be accomplished in archaeological sites, which are characterized by having daily representations of these people, as prime example cited is the rock paintings, predominant in archaeological sites of the Seridó, that will be the specific area of this work. The archaeological tourism segment developed in a planned and sustainable manner can be a beneficial activity for the city that adheres it, protecting the heritage visited, and still contributing to the local economy. Therefore, this study aims to: Identify the obstacles which prevent the development of archaeological tourism in the municipality of Parelhas/RN, making a comparative analysis with the municipality of Carnauba dos Dantas/RN, where the segment is already developed, for that it was necessary the application of questionnaires with the tourism secretaries of both municipalities, sites owners studied, which are the Mirador in Parelhas and Xique-Xique I in Carnauba dos Dantas, with the tour guides responsible by sites, and also with the residents in both cities, to understand what their perception about the archaeological tourism, and from them, identify what they believe to be important to the development of the segment. As result , were identified that will be necessary a greater involvement by municipal authorities (secretary and mayor), as well as, attention the Mirador site owners, and also was identified the lack of qualified people to work as a tour guide in the city.
