This way, the search for new energy sources grows, and these sources are named and well-known as renewable energy. Among these clean energy sources, the use and production of Wind energy is becoming more frequent. In this research paper, the settlement of Wind farms near the region of Lagoa Nova municipality and its contribution to the local economy development was evaluated, along with the analyzes of social and economic index related to the economic development considering the period prior to the building of these farms. The index considered was the GDP, the Municipal Development Index from FIRJAN, and tax revenues from ICMS and ISS between 2008 and 2014. The following research estrategies were used: bibliographic, field and documentary research, collected from the Lagoa Nova Town Hall database and also websites. The analyzes made shows an index growth above 100% between the years of 2008 and 2014, but the results does not come to a feasible conclusion about whether the building of wind farms were directly responsible for the municipality economic growth or not. Diante do esgotamento das matrizes energéticas convencionais e do grave desequilíbrio ambiental amplia-se a necessidade de se produzir uma energia com recursos naturalmente reabastecidos e que garanta uma produção compatível com as necessidades de crescimento econômico. Nesse sentido cresce a procura por novas fontes de energia denominadas de energias renováveis. Dentre as tais fontes de energia limpa, vem crescendo a utilização da energia eólica. Na presente pesquisa, buscou-se avaliar se a instalação dos parques eólicos melhorou os níveis de crescimento do desenvolvimento econômico do município de Lagoa Nova/RN, bem como avaliar e analisar os indicadores socioeconômicos com relação ao desenvolvimento econômico no período de instalação dos parques de geração de energia eólica. Os indicadores utilizados foram o Produto Interno Bruto, o Índice de Desenvolvimento Municipal da FIRJAN, a arrecadação de ICMS e ISS durante os anos 2008 a 2014. Foram utilizadas as seguintes estratégias de pesquisa: pesquisas bibliográficas, documental e de campo, com a coletada dos dados na Prefeitura Municipal de Lagoa Nova e nos portais eletrônicos.
