Resumo:In this work, the steel founder AISI D6, with dimensions 10 mm x 10 mm x 1.5 mm, was subjected to nitriding in cathodic cage by plasma of TiyN and FexN plasma to study the technical effects on the mechanical, physical-chemical, and morphological characteristics of steel. In this method, as they were placed in a cathodic potential, inside a cathodic cage (two cages of different materials were used, Stainless Steel AISI 316 and Titanium grade 2), for 4 hours at a temperature of 400 and 450 ° C. After the processes nitriding, as they were characterized using optical microscopy and microhardness. Finally, the results found that all of them obtained increased surface hardness. Besides, except the sample nitrided only with Stainless Steel cage, which did not exhibit an apparent layer, as an additional layer of compounds well defined and separated in Ti2N for those nitrided only with a titanium cage, and layer under layer (Ti2N + Fe2- 3N or Fe2-3N + Ti2N), for those that were submitted to both nitriding.
