Resumo:Biodiesel is a biofuel used in diesel engines, which can be synthesized from a chemical process called transesterification. One of the technical barriers to the use of biodiesel in today's engines is its low oxidative stability. In order to overcome this barrier, antioxidant additives are added to the biofuel, contributing to increase stability, however, concomitantly, production costs, in addition to interfering with its eco-friendly character, since these additives are synthetic chemical substances. An alternative to using these antioxidants is to modify the chemical composition of biodiesel. In this context, the present study has altered the composition of soy biodiesel by adding saturated esters (15, 25, 50 and 75%), more resistant to oxidation, of biodiesel samples obtained from the witerization of palm oil and babassu oils. The increase in the content of saturated esters was able to improve the antioxidant characteristics, reaching values above 6 hours through the Rancimat method, without affecting the kinematic viscosities. The proportions between the saturated and unsaturated fractions also interfere with the biodiesel's biolubricity. Thus, tests by HFRR (Hig Frequency Rig Reciprocing) revealed that the increase in the saturated content improved the performance of soybean biodiesel in its lubrication capacity.
