Resumo:Trigeneration systems have been widely used in the electric power industry, satisfying heating and cooling demands by recovering combustion gases that would otherwise be lost to the environment. The energy analysis, accompanied by an exergetic analysis, enabled us to determine important thermodynamic parameters, fundamental for quantitative and qualitative studies of the trigeneration system’s components. This paper is composed of an energy and exergetic analysis of a power plant located in Eskisehir, Turkey, that operates on natural gas. The outputs of the system are an electric power of 6.5 MW, chilled water of 0.55 MW and hot water of 4.3 MW. In this study, the exergetic efficiency and destroyed exergy of the turbine were calculated at 80.28% and 364kW, respectively. In the heating recuperator for the combustion gases, the energy efficiency achieved was 86.53%, as well as the destroyed exergy was 524.4 kW. The energy and exergetic balance improve the decision making process to select the components to be used in energy production, considering that the performance and losses are known.
