In order to do so, we seek first to understand the vision of the educational presuppositions at the macro (world), micro (Brazil) level and the Constitutional precepts that must be respected by society. Later, it enters in an analysis in which emphasizes the prison universe feminine with its several thorns. It is intended to discuss the challenges faced by lack of education and how it can fail to make positive changes in the lives of the inmates. For this, the present work believes that educational project in the criminal complex is a reality in paused construction. Besides the challenges, it is intended to point out what can be improved, aiming to contribute to what has already been done in the area of prison education. O presente trabalho versa sobre a ausência da educação para as mulheres privadas de liberdade, em especial na ala feminina do Complexo Penal João Chaves, na Zona Norte, da cidade do Natal, no Estado do Rio Grande do Norte. Para tanto, busca-se primeiramente entender a visão dos pressupostos educacionais no nível macro (mundo), micro (Brasil) e os preceito Constitucionais que devem ser respeitados pela sociedade. Posteriormente, adentra-se em uma análise em que se enfatiza o universo carcerário feminino com seus diversos espinhos. Pretende-se discutir os desafios enfrentados com a falta de oferta de educação e como ela pode deixar de realizar transformações positivas na vida das detentas. Para tanto, o presente trabalho acredita que o projeto educacional no complexo penal é uma realidade em construção pausada.
