description This bibliographical study proposes to discuss verbal-pictures representations of black girls characters in books of children’s literature, seeking to answer the following question: How are black girls represented in Black Children’s Literature? This work is presented as an afluente to the work plan “Black Children’s Literature: debating the color of silence by means of illustration of girls characters – 1st phase” in the contexto of the Institutional Program of Scientific Initiation Grant - CNPq/PIBIC/UFRN, linked to the main research Project “Black Children’s Literature: debating the color of silence in the classroom” (AMARILHA, [CNPq, 2018-2022]). This work has as a goal to get to know aspects of african culture by means of the representation of girls in books of Children’s Literature as a way to value them and confronting ethnical-racial discrimination and prejudice, therefore, to strengthen an anti-racism education at our schools. For this reason we selected the following works: Obax (NEVES, 2010); As tranças de Bintou (DIOUF;EVANS, 2004); Menina-rainha do Livro Os reizinhos de Congo (PEREIRA;LIMA, 2007) e Bruna e a galinha d’angola (ALMEIDA;SARAIVA, 2016). The results show that each one of the characters represent na aspect of african culture, they are girls who live their fates as protagonists who bear the values that identify a sense of belonging, be it territorial, religious or cultural. The study suggests that those characters might be read and valued by the boldness they represent, even though, they are children, they are protagonists of their stories and their fates. The contact of the child-reader with those works favors an education away from stereotypes, prejudice and discrimination.
